Precision and performance for high-quality handcrafted log homes

Since February 2024, Artifex Blockbau, based in Iffeldorf, Upper Bavaria, has been operating a SERRA XE 135 log band sawmill. Featuring an impressive cutting length of 20 metres and a throat opening of 1.35 metres, the machine has become the centerpiece of wood processing for the production of high-quality handcrafted log homes.

During the very first months of operation, the SERRA XE 135 was already used to cut countless timber components for Artifex’s custom log home projects. The combination of high cutting performance, precision, and flexibility enables the company to efficiently process even large-diameter logs while consistently meeting the high-quality standards required in traditional log construction.

Traditional craftsmanship meets modern sawmilling technology

Since 1997, Artifex Blockbau has specialized in the design and construction of handcrafted natural log homes. The company builds custom log homes, chalets, and alpine cabins from locally sourced silver fir and spruce harvested through sustainable forestry in the Bavarian Alps and Alpine foothills. Natural building materials, environmentally friendly construction methods, and outstanding craftsmanship are at the core of every project.

With more than 150 completed projects, Artifex has extensive expertise in traditional log construction and supports customers throughout the entire process, from planning to final assembly.

The ideal solution for log home construction

To process the exceptionally large natural logs used in many projects, Artifex required a powerful sawing solution that combines precision with economic efficiency. By choosing the SERRA XE 135, the company selected a machine specifically designed for demanding applications involving large and long timber. Thanks to its generous machine dimensions, even exceptionally sized logs can be processed efficiently. The high cutting accuracy ensures that each component is perfectly prepared for subsequent processing – a decisive factor in custom-built log homes where every detail matters.

A successful partnership

The successful commissioning of the SERRA XE 135 and the numerous log home components already produced demonstrate how modern sawmilling technology and traditional woodworking can work together perfectly. The machine helps Artifex meet increasing demands for quality, efficiency, and flexibility in handcrafted log home construction.

We are delighted to have Artifex Blockbau as a dedicated, quality-focused partner and would like to thank them for their trust in SERRA technology.
